Product overview

Controlled-Rate Freezers (CRF) are designed to keep samples safe during the freezing process, mitigating the impacts of nucleation and heat fluctuations when samples make the transition from a liquid to a frozen state. The successful freezing of biological samples depends on the freezing rate, precise temperature control and reasonable temperature gradient (+50°C to -180°C). When the temperature drops to -180°C, most biological samples can be transferred to liquid nitrogen tanks for long-term storage. At the same time, if the freezing rate is too fast or too slow, it is easy to cause the loss of water in the cells or the formation of large ice crystals, which is not conducive to cell survival. By using a controlled rate freezer, selecting a suitable freezing liquid and setting a suitable temperature rise and fall rate, the above disadvantages can be effectively overcome. Experiment has proved that (after temperature compensation) a freezing rate of 1-3°C per minute can greatly improve the survival rate of cryopreserved cells.
